HC to govt: How will new promotion policy be brought if SC admits old one Govt will issue circular through GAD for clarification: AG Our Staff Reporter BHOPAL The High Court, principal bench of Jabalpur, on Tuesday directed the state government to inform it at the next hearing how it will implement the new promotion policy 2025, given that the old promotion policy is pending in the Supreme Court. How will the government address the cancelled promo- tions under the new promotion policy? the court asked. The hearing was in the division bench of the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Sanjeev Sachdeva, and Justice Vinay Saraf. The next hearing is set for September 25. In 2016, the HC cancelled the state government’s promotion policy, which was challenged in the Supreme Court, and it is still pending there. The SC has already issued instructions to maintain the status quo. Responding to the court on how the state will implement the new policy when the old one is pending in the apex court, Advocate General Prashant Singh said that the General Administration Department (GAD) will issue a circular with clarification. SAPAKS, an anti-reservation organisation, challenged the new promotion policy in the HC. Senior Advocate Rameshwar Thakur said, “Interveners raised the issue of higher representation of the unreserved category in the High Court as per the quantifiable data…the constitutional rights of the government to make laws cannot be stopped by the High Court or the Supreme Court.” Rats bite patients’ feet at medical college in Jabalpur FP News Service JABALPUR Two patients and an attendant were allegedly bitten by rats at the mental illness department of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in Jabalpur. A bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad was hearing an appeal filed by the family members of the six persons who lost their lives in the blast against the acquittal judgment. The appeal challenged a special court judgment acquitting the seven accused in the case, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit. The HC bench on Tuesday sought to know if the family members were examined as witnesses in the trial. The family members' advocate told the bench that the first appellant, Nisar Ahmed, whose son died in the blast, was not a witness in the trial, but said he would submit the details on Wednesday. The bench then said if the appellant's son died in the blast, then he (Nisar Ahmed) should have been a witness. "You (appellants) have to indicate whether they were witnesses or not. Give us details. This is not an open gate for everyone," HC said. The court posted the matter for further hearing on Wednesday. The appeal filed last week claimed a faulty investigation or some defects in the probe cannot be the ground for acquitting the accused. 4Continued on | P8
