In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar wrote that he desires to resign “effective immediately” in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution. In the letter, the Vice-President also expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers for their “cooperation and support” and said he “learned much during his time in office”. In his customary remarks in Parliament complex before the session's start, Modi lauded a number of positive developments for the country and asserted that the Constitution is prevailing over bombs and guns. As naxalism's footprint shrinks fast, red zone is turning into green growth zone, he added. "This Monsoon session is a very proud session for the Lok Sabha adjourned The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Monday amid noisy protests by the opposition, which demanded a discussion on Operation Sindoor and other issues. The world witnessed the capability of armed forces. They achieved their targets 100 per cent," he said. He also noted that the Indian flag was unfurled re- cently at the International Space Station, a reference to Shubhanshu Shukla becoming the first Indian to set foot on the facility. The prime minister said economy was getting a boost from bountiful rains, while peace and progress have marked this decade amid low inflation and high growth. The water reservoir level has tripled compared to the past ten years, which will significantly benefit economy, he added. With the INDIA bloc uniting to demand a debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor and seizing on US President Donald Trump's claims of mediating a "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan to corner his government, Modi hailed the armed forces for meeting 100 per cent objectives of the military operation. 4Continued on | P8 Govt agrees to 16-hr discussion on Op Sindoor Government on Monday agreed to a 16-hour discussion in the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam terror attack, and it is likely to be taken up next week, even as the opposition insisted that it should start this week itself and Prime Minister Narendra Modi must reply functioning of the landing gear. Gavai on Monday objected when an advocate referred Justice Yashwant Varma -- who is currently embroiled in cash discovery allegations in the storeroom attached to his official residence in New Delhi -- simply as "Varma". "Is he your friend? He is still Justice Varma. Have some decorum! You are re- ferring to a learned judge," CJI Gavai told advocate Mathews J. Nedumpara, who was seeking an out-of-turn hearing on his third consecutive plea for directions to the Delhi Police to register an FIR regarding the alleged recovery of large amounts of unaccounted cash from the bungalow of Justice Varma. Declining to pass any order as to urgent listing of the matter, the CJI asked, "You want the petition to be dismissed right now?" "It is impossible to be dismissed. FIR has to be registered. Now, Varma seems to be asking for that only. There has to be an FIR and investigation," said Nedumpara. This invited an objection from CJI Gavai and asked Nedumpara to maintain "some decorum" since Justice Varma is still a judge of the Constitutional Court. In his petition, advocate Nedumpara, along with his co-petitioners, contended that the Union government - which oversees the Delhi Police -- was duty-bound to direct the registration of an FIR as soon as a large pile of burnt cash was discovered in the storeroom attached to Justice Varma's bungalow, after the fire brigade responded to a blaze there on March 14. 4Continued on | P8
