Excavation at the site began on Saturday, said Krishna Kumar Sonkar, the Executive Officer of Chandausi Nagar Palika. The excavation follows the reopening of the Bhasma Shankar temple in Sambhal on December 13, after being closed for 46 years. Authorities said they discovered the structure during an antiencroachment drive. Two damaged idols were found inside the well of the temple, officials had said. According to local sources, the stepwell was constructed during the reign of the maternal grandfather of the king of Bilari. The ATC tower has been built at the cost of Rs 55 crore. On this occasion, he announced a slew of measures to further modernise the airport. He announced that in view of the increasing number of passengers using the airport, which has reached 40 lakhs per year,  plans are afoot to build a new terminal building by 2028 with a handling capacity of 55 lakh passengers annually. At present the building is in the planning stage and soon the foundation stone will be laid. The length of the runway would be extended from 2,800 meters to 3,400 meters so as to be able to handle jumbo jet (E-type wide body) aircraft.
