In 2011, the state government issued an order to keep a box in every department for putting complaints about corruption into it. After the order, many departments kept such boxes. The government again issued the order asking the departments to put complaint boxes in their departments. In the order, it was mentioned that some departments defied the instructions issued in 2011. So, all the departments have been directed to carry out the fresh order in letter and spirit. The General Administration Department issued the directive to all divisional commissioners, heads of departments and collectors. According to sources, the previous order said the boxes should be regularly fp Briefs opened and the complaints related to corruption checked. The previous order further said the box would be put under lock and key and the complaints written on it. The complaints received in the box should be registered. A weekly report of the complaints has to be prepared, and a senior officer has been asked to act on these complaints about which information will be uploaded on the portal. The compalint boxes were put in the departments during the tenure of the then chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is now a Union Minister for Agriculture. In the beginning, the initiative was given a lot of publicity, but afterwards, the system of keeping complaint box in each department was swept under the carpet. The Mohan Yadav-led government has issued the order afresh so that the complaints may directly reach the government. The Special Establishment Police of Lokayukta has also issued a phone number for lodging complaints about corruption. SRIHARIKOTA ISRO sends Proba-3 to space The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday successfully sent the European Space Agency’s Proba-3 Sun observation mission atop the cclaunch vehicle into space. The mission lifted off from the First Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. "PSLV-C59 has successfully soared into the skies," the Indian space agency posted on X. The Proba-3 mission aims to study Sun’s faint corona closer to the solar rim. The schedule for the Global Investors’ summit (GIS) to be held in the state capital is being changed. It was initially decided that GIS would be held on February 7 and 8. Time was also sought from the industrialists who were to take part in the summit according to the sched- ule. But now, it will not be held according to the previous plan. The Industries Department has sent fresh dates (February 20 and 21) to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. After Yadav’s approval, the fresh dates will be announced. The state government wants to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi as chief guest to the event. Surprisingly, the action is being carried out at 20 locations in Dhar’s small towns, including 14 in Manawar and 6 in Rajgarh. A cotton trader from Indore is on the radar of the I-T dept’s investigation wing. The police were also assisting in the action. The verdicts, pronounced in last week of November, imposed fines and symbolic imprisonment on the accused, marking the conclusion of cases filed under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 (PFA Act 1954). MILK ADULTERATION CASES: Moti Lal, a milk vendor from Allunagar Diguriya, was penalized 42 years after being found guilty of selling milk with fat content below the permissible standard. On October 24, 1982, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) collected a sample of milk from him, which failed the fat content test. The court fined him �3,000 and sentenced him to remain in court custody until the court adjourned for the day. Similarly, Ram Lal, a milk under his control. T h e gove r n ment will a l l o t these dep a r t ments to someone else after holding talks with the party organisation. With these two departments, Yadav is handling 13 departments. A sample collected from his dairy revealed 22% less fat than the prescribed standard. He was fined Rs 3,000 and given a similar symbolic sentence. Reacting to the verdict, an FSDA official said, “This judgment, though delayed, reiterates the importance of food safety laws. Adulteration in essential commodities like milk affects the health of countless individuals, especially children.” SUGAR ADULTERATION CASE: The court also resolved a 21-year-old case involving adulterated sugar. On September 8, 2003, FSDA officials collected a sample from the shop of Suresh Chandra Gupta, a resident of Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT). Tests revealed that the sucrose content was below the minimum standard, and excessive moisture was present. Gupta was found guilty and fined Rs 6,000. Like the milk vendors, he was also sentenced to remain in court custody until the court closed for the day. DECADES-LONG LEGAL DELAYS: Advocate R.K. Sharma remarked, “It’s unfortunate that justice took decades, but the verdict reinforces the importance of strict food safety enforcement.” These judgments highlight the prolonged delays in resolving cases under the PFA Act. Experts and legal observers have pointed to the need for streamlining judicial processes to ensure timely verdicts in such cases. The FSDA, while welcoming the verdicts, emphasized the importance of robust monitoring to prevent food adulteration. French govt falls after losing vote of confidence IANS PARIS The deputies of the French National Assembly voted on Wednesday evening in favour of a no-confidence vote, forcing French Prime Minister Michel Barnier to resign and his government to collapse. A total of 331 deputies, mostly from left-wing parties alliance New Popular Front (NFP) and far-right party National Rally (RN), have voted in favour, largely over the 289 votes requested for the noconfidence vote to go through, Xinhua news agency reported. According to the French Constitution, Barnier now needs to hand in his resignation to French President Emmanuel Macron. The resignation will be automatically considered as accepted. Speaking to the French lawmakers before the vote, Barnier defended his decision to force passage of the 2025 social security budget. "I made this decision after having demonstrated the spirit of listening, respect, and dialogue, which led the government to improve its text every day on several important points," he said. Pointing out that France is plunged into an enormous deficit, Barnier said: "This reality remains there, it will not disappear by the magic of a no-confidence vote." 4Continued on | P6
