Besides his arrest, Kejriwal, who is currently in judicial custody in Tihar jail, had also challenged his subsequent remand in Enforcement Directorate's custody, which the court said was not illegal. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said the Enforcement Directorate was in possession of "enough material" which led to Kejriwal's arrest, and the trial court remanded him in the custody of the agency by a well-reasoned order. "The court is of the view that the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal was not in contravention of legal provisions. The remand can't be held to be illegal," said Justice Sharma while delivering the verdict. She read out the judgement for 25 minutes and also explained certain portions of her decision in Hindi. The court clarified that it was not dealing with Kejriwal's bail plea but his writ petition challenging the arrest on certain grounds. CONTD. ON P6 Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal leaves from the Rouse Avenue Court in the excise policylinked money laundering case, in New Delhi on Tuesday. THE COURT SAID ARVIND KEJRIWAL'S challenge to the timing of his arrest before the Lok Sabha elections in the absence of any mala fide on the part of the Enforcement Directorate is not sustainable, the Delhi High Court said. THE ED was in possession of enough material which led them to arrest Arvind Kejriwal. Non-joining of the investigation by Mr Kejriwal and the delay caused by him also impacted those in judicial custody, the Delhi High Court said on the necessity of arrest. JUDGES ARE bound by law and not by politics. Judgments are written by legal principles and not political affiliations, the High Court said. POLITICAL CONSIDERATIONS can't be brought before a court of law. The matter before this court is not a conflict between the central government and Arvind Kejriwal but between him and the ED, the court said. COURTS ARE concerned with constitutional morality and not political morality, it said. THIS COURT holds that the ED was able to place enough material, statements of approvers, and their own candidate stating he was given money for the Goa Elections. It completes the chain regarding the money sent for the Goa elections, the court said. SC will provide relief: AAP Failing to get any reprieve from the Delhi High Court, the Aam Aadmi Party Tuesday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will move the Supreme Court against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate, and maintained the excise police case was the "biggest political conspiracy of the country" to finish the party, senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj told a press conference. NAMSAI Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday criticised China for renaming several places in Arunachal Pradesh, and wondered whether a similar attempt by India will result in those areas of the neighbouring country becoming parts of our territory . Addressing an election rally at Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh East Constituency, Singh said China's move to change the names of 30 places in the northeastern state will not change the ground reality . Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, he asserted. "I want to ask China if we change the names of various states of the neighbouring country, will those be parts of our territory? Because of such ac- tivities, the relationship between India and China will deteriorate," Singh said. "We want to maintain good relations with all our neighbours. But if anybody tries to harm our selfrespect, India has the capability to give a befitting reply," the defence minister asserted. India had earlier this month outrightly rejected as "senseless" China renaming some places in Arunachal Pradesh, and asserted that assigning "invented" names does not alter the reality that the state "is, has been, and will always be" an integral part of India. Beijing had recently announced Chinese names for 30 more places in Arunachal Pradesh, which the neighbouring country claims as southern part of Tibet. CONTD.
