The picture, showing Lt. General A.A.K. Niazi of Pakistan signing the surrender document in the presence of Lt. General Jagjit Singh Aurora, is a historic reminder of India’s decisive victory and Bangladesh’s liberation. Priyanka, speaking during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, expressed deep disappointment, saying, “The government does not respect our soldiers enough. Removing this photograph dishonors their sacrifices.” Her remarks came in response to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s assertion that the Congress failed to adequately acknowledge key contributors, including then Defence Minister Jagjivan Ram, during the 1971 war. Dubey highlighted that on Vijay Diwas—commemorating the day India liberated Bangladesh and took 93,000 Pakistani soldiers as prisoners—the contributions of several leaders had been sidelined in the Congress's narrative.
