He also indicated that the agreement will lead to disengagement and a resolution of the issues that had arisen in 2020. The breakthrough, which may see the end of a four-yearlong military standoff, has come ahead of a likely meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Russia. While the details were sketchy, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar indicated that Indian and Chinese soldiers will be able to resume patrolling in the manner they had been doing before the face-off began. It is understood that this, in turn, will facilitate patrolling in Depsang and Demchok areas in Ladakh and hopefully lead to disengagement. At a function organised by the NDTV, Jaishankar explained, ‘‘We've been negotiat- Pannun issues warning on flying AI Agencies NEW DELHI ing since September 2020, when I met my counterpart, Wang Yi, in Moscow at that time...I think it creates a basis that peace and tranquillity, which should be there in the border areas, as was there before 2020, will be able to come back." ‘‘So, we can say that the disengagement process with China has been completed...For various reasons after 2020, there were areas where they had blocked us and we had blocked them. So what has happened is we have reached an understanding which will allow the patrolling," he said. The announcement boosts the chances of a meeting between PM Modi and the Chinese Premier at the BRICS summit. At the time of writing the Chinese foreign ministry had made no comment on the agreement. With India announcing an agreement with China on patrolling along the LAC, the Congress on Monday said Parliament was not allowed an opportunity to discuss the border situation even once and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks in 2020 "weakened us immeasurably". SP MP abuses CJI, retracts after row Priyanka to file nomination on October 23 Agencies WAYANAD NEW DELHI Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on Monday warned passengers not to fly on Air India flights from November 1 to 19. He asserted that an attack could take place on an Air India flight during the specified dates, which coincide with the "40th anniversary of the Sikh genocide". The founder of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), who holds dual citizenship in Canada and the US, had issued a similar threat around the same time last year. Pannun's fresh threat comes amid several airlines in India receiving multiple threat calls about potential bombings. It also occurred at a time when India and Canada are engaged in a murky diplomatic row following Canada's allegations of India targeting Khalistani elements in the country. Last month, Jaishankar had said roughly 75 per cent of the "disengagement problems" with China have been sorted out but the bigger issue has been the increasing militarisation of the frontier. The announcement has come just before the onset of severe winter in a terrain where some 50,000 soldiers are deployed for about four and a half years. Neither India nor China has made clear exactly how many soldiers died as a result of the skirmishes and due to the rigours of the subsequent deployment in the harsh climate. When you bring ghosts back to life, when you bring the dead back to life, they become ghosts and start following justice. Where are they now?... Forget it, all such ******* people keep on saying such things. Should I take notice of them?" Ram Gopal Yadav told reporters. Later, when asked for a clarification of his objectionable remark, Ram Gopal Yadav denied making such a statement and argued that he was asked to respond to the Bahraich violence.
