The number of casualties can go up, sources added. The terrorists had opened fire on a camp housing labourers of a private company, who were working on the ZMorh tunnel. The tunnel is strategically important for defense and will provide allweather connectivity to people and the Indian Army in Ladakh. Heavy snowfall at Zojila often cuts off Ladakh from Kashmir. This disrupts the movement of forces, people and essential goods and services. Ganderbal district, which is regarded as a peaceful area, has seen non-locals targeted for the first time in recent years. Union minister NItin Gadkari has condemned the "horrific" terror attack. In a post on X, the minister said the "innocent labourers" were engaged in a vital infrastructure project. The attack came a day after locals found a migrant worker's bullet-riddled body in the Waduna area of Zainapora in Shopian district in south Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the attack on "unarmed innocent people" and extended his condolences to their loved ones. "Very sad news of a das- tardly and cowardly attack on non-local labourers in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. Two persons have been killed and 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and send my condolences to their loved ones," Abdullah posted on X. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too condemned the killing, saying the entire country is against such "inhuman and reprehensible" crimes. 4Continued on | P6 Mother, daughter killed in Morena LPG blast ANI MORENA Maha polls: BJP first to put out its first list of 99 candidates Doctor, 6 workers shot dead at J&K infra camp GANDERBAL Rajkumar mon people of Vindhya area.
