Three persons died in Narmdapuram district while two other succumbed in Damoh, according to the government officials. Three persons including a 90-year-old woman died in Bagra Tawa village of Narmdapuram district within four days. They reported vomiting and other related symptoms. Howver, the dis- trict administration attributed that food poisoning could be the reason of deaths. A team of doctors led by CMHO Dr Dinesh Dahalwar rushed to the village and also collected water samples for lab testing. The team distributed chlorine tablets for purification of water and ORS packets to check dehydration. Later, all water samples were found OK. Primary investigations by police have revealed that some small-time bootleggers of different villages in Botad district had made the spurious liquor by mixing water with methyl alcohol or Methanol, a highly poisonous industrial solvent, and sold it to villagers for Rs 20 per pouch. According to police, forensic analysis established that the victims consumed methyl alcohol.
