The move assumes significance since the NEET UG examination in 2024 was plagued with allegations of paper leaks and irregularities following which the Supreme Court had directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish centre-wise results with masked ident- ities and had also ordered cancellation of scorecards and a retest for 1,563 candi- dates who were given grace marks. It had also acknowledged that 155 students had directly benefited from the leak. The case was closed in April this year after the Centre assured that it would implement almost all suggestions put forth by an expert committee constituted to make the examination sys- tem foolproof. Among other things, the NEET UG panel had suggested sending question papers online at the last minute before the exam, employing OMR sheets for answers, and employing more permanent employees rather than hiring workers from outside.
