Justice Gavai, the second senior-most Supreme Court judge after the incumbent CJI Khanna, is set to become the 52nd CJI on May 14 after the retirement of CJI Khanna on May 13. Justice Gavai, who was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019, would have a tenure of over six months as the CJI. He is due to retire on November 23, 2025. Seven patients had died in the process. Damoh district Chief Medical and Health Officer Mukesh Jain said the hospital's licence had expired on March 31, 2025, and its management had applied for renewal in December last year. The application for renewal was returned to the management after certain shortcomings were found in the hospital, he said. Jain said the hospital was told to apply again within seven days after addressing the shortcomings. "The hospital failed to resubmit the application within the stipulated time. So, the licence of Mission Hospital has been suspended till further orders," he told reporters. As per the police, the fraudsters, posing as Nashik police officers, initiated contact with Supradipta- Ramakrishna Mission Ashram secretary Supradiptananda Swami nanda Swami on March 17. Claiming that he was an accused in the Naresh Goyal money-laundering case, they allegedly executed his ‘digital arrest’ via video call. Then, they allegedly coerced him into transferring money to various bank accounts, managing to siphon off Rs 2.52 crore over 26 days. Swami filed a complaint with the Gwalior police on Tuesday. A case has been registered, and an investigation has started in this regard. Efforts are on to recover funds from fraudsters. 4Continued on | P8 PTI NASHIK Twenty one police personnel were injured and three police vehicles damaged when a mob attacked them while opposing the demolition of an unauthorised dargah in Maharashtra's Nashik city, officials said on Wednesday. The incident took place late Tuesday night and police resorted to lathi-charge and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the mob and brought the situation under control, they said, adding 15 persons have been detained in connection with the violence. The injured police personnel were on security duty during the anti-encroachment drive at the spot when the incident occurred. The situation is currently peaceful, a senior police official said. At around 6 am on Wednesday, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) personnel removed the unauthorised Satpeer Baba Dargah located in Kathe Galli area of the city, following an order of the Bombay High Court, the police said. While one critical patient who was evacuated died, the hospital staff managed to evacuate over 100 patients and their families. The blaze was believed to have been caused by a short circuit that led to a flaring electrical panel. The surgical wards and operation theatre, located on the first floor, were filled with toxic fumes. The entire hospital management and medical staff rushed to the scene to assist. The fire was reported to have spread rapidly but was contained within 30 minutes with the help of firefighting equipment. However, eyewitnesses reported that the hospital’s fire safety systems failed to activate. According to information the deceased has been identified as Virendra Kushwaha (50) of Chonda village.
