If investment proposals received in Regional Industries Conclave (RIC), Interactive Session and GIS are clubbed together then the state received investment proposals of Rs 30.77 lakh crore. He was addressing press conference after GIS conclusion. He said that more than 85 Memorandum of Understandings were signed during GIS. After GIS, the government is going to scrutinise proposals and will contact investors so that investment could come to the ground level. Our Staff Reporter INDORE A 19-year-old young woman strangled her boyfriend to death with her scarf following a dispute under Bhanwarkuan police station limits on Tuesday. After the murder, she reached the police station on foot after walking for around 1.5 km. Preliminary investigation revealed that a dispute arose between the couple as the young woman wanted to leave him and wanted to return home. After a scuffle, in sudden provocation, she strangled him to death with her scarf. According to the police, the Cops sit on actor’s protection plea S Balakrishnan MUMBAI The 34-year-old actress who has filed a first information report (FIR) against businessman Shyam Sunder Bhartia, 73, and three others, on charges of multiple rape, criminal intimidation and offences under the Atrocities Act at the Kapurbawdi police station in Thane, sought police protection on Tuesday, apprehending danger to her life. According to sources, the victim, who is now moving about in a burqa to avoid being identified, has received threats and fears for her life. However, police are yet to accede to her request for protection. In her FIR, the victim has accused Bhartia of raping her on different occasions, in Singapore, Mumbai and Delhi. Apparently, one of the co-accused in the case, Pooja Singh, videographed the rape and threatened to make the tape viral if she complained. All charges are bogus: Bhartiya Jubilant FoodWorks on Tuesday issued a clarification, in response to reports published in the media about a first information report against its Chairman, Shyam Sundar Bhartia (73). In the FIR, filed in Thane against businessman Bhartia and three others, an aspiring actress has levelled charges of multiple rape, criminal intimidation and offences under the Atrocities Act. Since the police did not initially register the FIR, the victim had filed a criminal writ petition before Bombay High Court which ordered the police to do the needful. In an exchange filing to the BSE, the company said Bhartia has denied all allegations leveled against him, calling them “baseless, false and disparaging, and made with clear mala fide intent”. Since police did not register the victimʼs FIR, she moved the Bombay High Court through her lawyers Mohammed Ahmed Shaikh and Sofiya Shaikh. The HC directed the Thane police to register her FIR and investigate the allegations. In the criminal writ petition, the victim has stated that Pooja Singh had formed a company called Flying Colors Pvt Ltd, on October 23, 2023 in which Singh, her daughter Mallika and the victim were directors. Pooja had said Bhartia would invest ₹50 crore in the company to produce a film and make the victim a big star. 4Continued on | P10 Proposals received to be reviewed every week: CS Our Staff Reporter BHOPAL Chief Secretary Anurag Jain has said the proposals received at the Global Investors Summit (GIS) will be reviewed every week. Jain gave the information about the follow-up of the proposals received at summit in the concluding function of the two-day GIS. Jain said he would hold a meeting with the officers to review the investment proposals every month. MP has become one of the fast-developing states in the country in the past 12 years, he said. Eighteen policies have been made and the department-wise information has been mentioned in each policy, he said. Referring to the tourism policy, he has said once 28 types of permission had to be taken for investment in this sector, but now, only ten permissions are required. According to CS, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the mantra of three Ts: tourism, technology and textiles. The work is on in all three sectors. New policies have been prepared for these sectors, and investment proposals have been received at the GIS. The observation came from a bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih after a plea concerning disposal of the waste was mentioned before it for urgent listing. The apex court had on February 17 sought responses from the Centre, the Madhya Pradesh government and its pollution control board on the plea which raised the issue of alleged risk to the life and health of residents of the villages situated within one km radius from the disposal site. While mentioning the matter for urgent listing, the petitioner's counsel said the Madhya Pradesh High Court had on February 18 allowed the state to carry out a trial run of the disposal of waste from February 27. 4Continued on | P10 GREEN INNOVATION: IIT team uses food waste to make stronger concrete Our Staff Reporter INDORE Globally, about one-third of food ends up as waste. The decomposition of this waste results in emission of about 4400 million tonnes of CO 2, equivalent to 8 per cent of global carbon emissions. But what if the food scraps are used to make concrete more robust and sustainable, reducing CO 2 emissions? The process can reduce up to 20% of CO2 emissions from the construction industry, one of the highest contributors of greenhouse gases in the country In a green innovation, a team of researchers from IIT Indore has demonstrated that addition of food waste along with selected non-pathogenic bacteria can double the strength of concrete, improve durability, repair cracks and help with CO 2 capture, along with cutting down the cost of concrete. The research team, which consisted of Prof Sandeep Chaudhary, Dr Hem Chandra Jha, Dr Akshay Anil Thakare, Shivam Rajput and Dr Sanchit Gupta combined its expertise of civil and bio engineering to develop this process. The research team estimates that the final form of their process can reduce up to 20% of CO 2 emissions from the construction industry, one of the highest contributors of greenhouse gases in the country. In the past 20 years, the number of road networks, airports, IITs, IIMs, and NIFTs has been increased besides there are mines in the state which has also become cotton capital. 4Continued on | P10 NURSING SCAM: HC orders govt to submit list of officers Our Staff Reporter BHOPAL The High Court, on Tuesday ordered the state government to submit list of all those responsible officers of Indian Nursing Council (INC), MP Nursing Council (MPNRC) and MP Medical Science University (MPMSU) for giving recognition and affiliation to nursing institutions and ineligible colleges. After the order of the High Court, those officers may have to face major action who were posted as Nursing Council Chairman (Director Medical Education), Registrar, Council Member, University Registrar, Member of University Executive Council, Vice Chancellor, Inspector etc. during the period of giving recognition to ineligible colleges. All other nursing cases were heard along with the PIL of Law Students Association President Vishal Baghel. During the hearing, Justice Sanjay Dwivedi and Justice Achal Kumar Paliwal of the High Court's Special Bench have ordered the government to present the list in the next hearing. The High Court, on Tuesday has directed that if the report is not submitted till the next hearing, the responsible officers will have to appear in the court. 4Continued on | P10
