The gates have been opened at an average height of 1.33 meters, releasing around 52,195 cusecs of water into the Narmada river. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 98,742 cusecs and the water level has reached 417.40 meters, which is just shy of the 417.50-meter target level for July 31. With the dam’s full storage capacity at 422.76 meters, authorities are proactively releasing water to prevent over- flow. This move is expected to raise the Narmada’s water level by 5 to 7 meters in the coming hours. A high alert has been issued for areas near the Narmada river. Residents in low-lying regions have been advised to stay away from the river and refrain from using nearby bridges.
