Hospitals liable The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission’s ruling, holding a hospital vicariously liable for the medical negligence of its doctor, which led to a patient's death. The NCDRC had awarded ₹20 lakh in compensation—₹15 lakh from the hospital and ₹5 lakh from the doctor. The hospital’s appeal was dismissed by Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih, who found sufficient evidence of negligence.
