Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) will soon issue a tender in November for a waste-to-power plant, a groundbreaking initiative to process 300 tonnes of waste per day and generate 40 MW of power. This was shared by Indore Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma, who spoke about the city’s future plans while serving as the Guest Editor of Free Press for October 8, 2024 edition. “We are pushing to set up a waste-to-electricity plant to process 300 tons per day (TPD) of municipal waste, generating 40 megawatts of energy,” Verma said. He explained that the facility uses technology to convert or- ganic waste into renewable energy, reducing landfill burden and minimizing environmental impact. In addition to waste management, the IMC is also planning to sell treated sewerage water for industrial use. “We plan to sell about 100 MLD of treated water from the Kabitkhedi plant to industries,” Verma said. Currently, treated water is used to irrigate public gardens and farmland, but industrial sales will offer another revenue stream and further environmental benefits, he added. Despite the city’s impressive track record, maintaining Indore's cleanliness presents ongoing challenges, believes the municipal commissioner. Verma noted that many garbage collection vans are in need of repair or replacement, but recent efforts have helped with the purchase of 140 new garbage trucks. 4Continued on | P6 stayed put in state on Monday too.
