In a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Mendola said that similar rule should be brought in the state before the start of the Kanwar Yatra. Congress MLA Arif Masood has criticized Mendola's demand, saying it would divide society. However, there is no provision under Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act to display names of proprie- tors while issuing Gumasta Licence to start a business.
