Four Army personnel were killed and six injured in the strike. The area falls under the 9 Corps of the Indian Army. The Army vehicles were on a routine patrol when terrorists fired at them from the top of a hill. They also hurled grenades after the initial firing. The security forces retaliated but the terrorists fled into a nearby forest, officials said. Reinforcements were rushed to the spot and an intermittent gunfight is since on between the terrorists and the security forces. The terrorists are believed to have recently infiltrated from across the border and were moving in the higher reaches. Monday’s attack came 24 hours after six terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in J&K's Kulgam district. After more than 300mm of rain came pelting down in the six hours between 1am and 7am, there was flooding for several hours thereafter, disrupting buses, planes and trains. Trains were especially affected on Central Railway, which had not cleared garbage and muck from several stretches of tracks. Fast trains between CSMT and Thane and Harbour line services were suspended because of waterlogging, according to the CR’s chief public relations officer, Swapnil Nila. The BMC too was caught napping since its pre-monsoon preparations were not complete, despite complaints from former corporators, like Ravi Raja. Flood-prone areas such as King’s Circle and other subways were waterlogged, affecting BEST buses. As a precautionary measure, the civic body declared a holiday for all BMC, government and private schools and colleges. Sr. citizen dies in short circuit fire A senior citizen identified as Shanta Acharya (72) died after a fire broke out due to short circuit in her room in a chawl at Datta Mandir road in Santacruz on Monday afternoon. Rohini Rajesh Bote, 20, was waiting on Platform No. 3 of the station when she suddenly fell on the tracks just before a Panvel-Thane train reached the spot. The motor- man braked but by then, one of the coaches had already run over her. A viral video of the incident shows the local train slowly reversing, after an alarm was raised by commuters on the platform, to reveal the injured woman lying on the tracks. Further, the woman, with bloodied feet, is seen trying to sit up with great difficulty, as policemen jump on the tracks to help her. According to Inspector Pravin Padvi of the Panvel Government Railway Police, “Two Railway Police Force staff who were on the spot, rushed to her rescue. The motorman reversed the train and the RPF rescued the lady from beneath the train. Unfortunately, both her legs were severed in the accident. She was rushed to MGM Hospital in CBD Bela- pur,”. In her statement to the police, Bote said she suddenly felt dizzy and fell off the platform as the train approached. Bote, who works as a house help, was returning home from work and the incident occurred around 10.03am. “She works as a house help at C B D Belapur. Usually, she goes home by bus but since it was raining heavily on Monday morning, she decided to take a train up to Kharghar and then reach Taloja using a share-anauto service. Just before the train arrived, she fell on the tracks. We have made a diary entry at the GRP station,” Padvi added.
