The new revised NCERT Class 12 Political Science textbook does not mention the Babri Masjid by name but refers to it as a “three-domed structure”. Also, the Ayodhya section has been trimmed from four to two pages deleting the details from the earlier version. Speaking about references to Gujarat riots or Babri masjid demolition being tweaked in NCERT textbooks, Saklani said, “Why should we teach about riots in school textbooks? We want to create positive citizens not violent and depressed individuals”. “Should we teach our students in a manner that they become offensive, create hatred in society or become victim of hatred? Is that education’s purpose? Should we teach about riots to such young children … when they grow up, they can learn about it but why school textbooks. Let them understand what happened and why it happened when they grow up. The hue and cry about the Gambhir poised to be India coach Four Union ministers pledge to prove their mettle Haridev Pushparaj Shivraj takes out road show to receive people’s blessing MUMBAI Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir is likely to become the next head coach of the Indian cricket team, media reports said quoting officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). BCCI is likely to make the official announcement regarding Gambhir’s appointment to the high-profile coaching job in the coming days, according to the reports. The hunt for a coach has been on for the last couple of months with Rahul Dravid’s tenure ending after the T20 World Cup and Gambhir was one of the major contenders for the position. The former India batsman had expressed his inclination to take up the most coveted job in Indian cricket when the coach scouting process was on but had said he would like to have his own support staff. BCCI has apparently accepted Gambhir’s demands and he is all set to be named to the post officially in a week, according to the reports. Gambhir has been a successful batsman for India and played a pivotal knock of 97 against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final that helped India clinch their second ODI World Cup trophy. The Delhi man also tasted success when he led Kolkata Knight Riders to their first IPL title in 2012. OUR STAFF REPORTER CITY.BHOPAL@FPJ.CO.IN Upon reaching Bhopal for the first time, all four Union ministers; Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Durgdas Uikey Savitri Thakur, reached BJP office and garlanded the statue of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay and other leaders on Sunday evening. They all pledged to prove their mettle by working hard. Earlier, Shivraj Singh Chouhan recieved a warm welcome throughout his journey. Hundreds of BJP workers changes is irrelevant,” he added. The lesson in the newly revised textbook focuses on the Supreme Court judgement that paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple. “We want to create positive citizens and that’s what is the purpose of our textbooks. We cannot have everything in them. The purpose of our education is not to create violent citizens … depressed citizens. Hatred and violence are not subjects of teaching, they should not be focus of our textbooks,” Saklani further said. The NCERT director went on to say that the same hue and and leaders were present at party office when all four union ministers including Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State Savitri Thakur and Union Minister of State Durgadas Uikey were garlanding the statues of party patriarchs. Earlier Shivraj Singh Chouhan received a rousing welcome throughout his train journey from Delhi to Bhopal. Wherever train stopped like Jhansi, Bina, Lalitpur stations, cry is not made about the 1984 riots not being in textbooks. The NCERT chief also questioned how teaching about the Indian knowledge system amounted to saffronisation. "If we are telling about iron pillar in Mehrauli and saying Indians were way ahead of any metallurgical scientist, are we wrong? How can it be saffronisation?" he asked. The 61-year-old has earlier headed the ancient history department at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University before he took charge of NCERT in 2022.
