According to customs, last Monday AIU officers at the , Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport intercepted a family (one male, one female and one child (aged two years and nine months), based on the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) profiling, travelling from Singapore to Mumbai on an Indigo flight and intending to travel from Mumbai to Chennai. “On personal search of the passengers, 24KT gold dust contained in four pouches weighing around two kilogrammes was seized. The gold dust was valued at Rs 1,05,27,331. The accused had used a unique way to conceal the smuggled gold – in the inner garments and the diaper of the child,” an official said. The two accused persons were produced in court, which remanded them in judicial custody Customs offi. cers are now probing the supplier and recipient of the smuggled consignment.
