Feeling the pressure like two others of his tribe – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – Jadeja had the luxury of leaning on his senior who, in any case, was taking a call in the field. But Jadeja did not make most of the opportunity and allowed his own form to suffer due to the pressure that comes with responsibility; in fact, CONTD. ON NATION PAGE As temperatures soar, so does the possibility that Mumbaikars may lose the luxury of 24x7 power supply. This is in the wake of the rapidly increasing demand for power and transmission constraints in evacuation of power from outside. Mumbai recorded a peak demand of 3,820MW on Friday, 3,851MW on Thursday, 3,807MW on Wednesday, 3,616MW on Tuesday and 3,633MW on Monday. Power industry players are of the view that if the city’s peak demand surges to 4,200MW in the days to come, then Mumbaikars will have to sweat it out as continuous power supply cannot be a given. Tata Power and Adani Electricity have begun urging consumers to save power and limit the use of air conditioners. CONTD. TANDOORI D&N HOTTEST APRIL FPJ NEWS SERVICE NEW DELHI Northwest and central India on Saturday recorded the highest average maximum temperature in April since 1900. The two regions experienced the hottest April in 122 years with average maximum temperature touching 35.9 degrees Celsius and 37.78 degrees Celsius, respectively . The northwest region had previously recorded an average maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius in April 2010, while the previous record for the central region was 37.75 degrees Celsius in 1973. There is unlikely to be respite for the region in May, the weather office said on Saturday. Rather, most parts, barring those in southern peninsular India, are likely to experience warmer nights in May as well. The high temperatures in March and April are being attributed to "continuously scanty rainfall activity." In March, northwest India recorded a deficit in rainfall of around 89 per cent, while the deficit was nearly 83 per cent in April, mainly on account of almost negligible western disturbances. However, most likely the average rainfall in May 2022 would be above normal. CONTD.
