A plaque bearing the name of noted Dutch artist Ruth Waterman who made it, has a crack running vertically to divide Waterman as ‘Water’ and ‘man’. A slipper lies on the platform which the statue is sitting upon, surrounded by a net of iron bars. Cement is peeling off at many places. This is how the iconic sculpture stood on . the eve of Gas Tragedy anniversary Washing of the statue with water is an annual ritual, as per survivors. The sculpture was installed in 1986 and was the first memorial to the gas tragedy. It depicts a woman, carrying a small baby, escaping from the toxic gas. Another little child is clutching the woman from the back. A black-granite plaque below the sculpture reads: “No Hiroshima, No Bhopal. We Want to Live. Memorial dedicated to the victims of the gas disaster caused due to leakage of Methyl Isocyanate from erstwhile Union Carbide factory on the intervening night of December 2 and 3, 1984. Sanghralaya on Thursday This has created panic in . the zoo and the entire city The leopard is less than a year old, estimated to be 7 month old. The leopard is a wild one and not a trained leopard of the city zoo. Hence, this young leopard may attack children, animals and even adults in self-defence. The leopard is known to stray into human habitations. The leopard was brought at Nepanagar, from Burhanpur. It was rescued by the Nepanagar forest department and was brought to Indore city zoo for a check-up and treatment. It was brought in late on Wednesday night. Since it was a young leopard and brought in late, it was decided to keep the leop- RESCUED FROM NAVRA VILLAGE Q A leopard had suddenly entered the verandah of a house in Navra village of Nepanagar tehsil of the district around 9 pm; no one was there at that time Q As soon as the villagers came to know about this, the whole village gathered around and an atmosphere of fear was created among the villagers Q The villagers informed the forest department and, after a difficult rescue operation lasting four hours till around 1 pm, the forest department managed to catch the animal and put it in the cage; no one was injured Q Leopard had been seen in the fields for the past few days, the villagers told the forest department rescue team ard in the transport cage overnight. Leopard search operation Burhanpur ASP suspended pected that the opening was enough to escape. In view of danger, the zoo will . remain closed on Friday BHOPAL: ASP Abhishek Diwan, posted in Burhanpur district, has been suspended and attached to police headquarters, Bhopal till further orders, as per the GO issued on Thursday evening. The suspended cop is husband of an SP posted in one of the districts of the state. A court in Sheopur issued the orders on November 29 to punish Diwan under Section 323 with six months of imprisonment and the penalty of Rs 1000. The orders were issued against the officer for a case that was registered when he was posted as SDO, Baroda, district Sheopur. A search operation was launched to rescue the leopard. An Indore city zoo, Indore forest department and Nepanagar forest department team attempted to track the leopard in and around the city zoo. It could possibly have strayed near the river or the outskirts of the city. Sniffer dogs were also called in to help trace the leopard. But all efforts failed as the leopard could not be found.
