Covic-19 consumed 632 lives in past one year, but, in the past fortnight, the number of deaths from coronavirus is 300. In the state capital, nearly 300 people have died this month. There is acute shortage of Remdisivir injection and oxygen in the state. It is because of the scarcity of the injection and oxygen that the number of people losing lives was higher than that of last year. If a patient gets a jab of Remdesivir immediately after being afflicted with disease, the chances of spreading infection reduce. Similarly if a patient gets , oxygen, his chances of sur- vival increase. The number of deaths is increasing because of the shortage of these two important items. CMD of Chirayu, Dr Ajay Goenka, says nearly 10-15 people being treated in different hospitals in the city are losing lives. He says many patients are coming to hospitals in a serious condition, and, they die in 24 hours, despite best efforts of the doctors and health staff. The new strain of the virus is the reason behind rising number of deaths, he says. Earlier, the virus took five to seven days to infect the lungs, he says. The Centre has decided to allow entry of many foreign-made Covid-19 vaccines that have been listed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) or by other governments for restricted use.
