Media reports on Saturday had pegged the deaths at 5. That makes it one of the most lethal encounters in south Bastar. A contingent of about 1,500 troops, drawn from specialised jungle warfare unit CoBRA and its regular battalions, had launched a search and destroy operation along the border of Bijapur-Sukma district, after they got input of Maoist presence. A siege was accordingly laid at the crack of Moeen's no to CSK liquor logo all-rounder ngland Moeen Ali has asked his franchise, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), to remove the logo of the alcohol brand from his jersey and the CSK has agreed to it. Moeen is a practicing Muslim and his faith forbids him from consuming or even promoting alcohol. He doesn’t support alcohol brands while even playing for England and along with Adil Rashid prefers to stay away as well during the celebrations post series. He is now among five cricketers who have never promoted alcoholic beverages. Among these players are Afghanistan’s sensation Rashid Khan; Lahore-born Im- $" & % " ran Tahir who plays for South Africa in ODIS; and South Africa’s Hasihm Amla, who also chooses to forego his share of the money that is earned through liquor sponsorship. But the big surprise in this lot is Sachin Tendulkar who has never endorsed alcohol or tobacco. In fact, he set an example for many other cricketers from around the world by rejecting a massive brand deal in 2010. ‘ ‘One thing my father told me was try not to promote tobacco and alcohol. So those are the two things I stayed away from,” he had revealed at an event. After special observers Nagendra Tripathi reached the spot and assured the TMC supremo that he will keep strict vigil at that area, the TMC supremo left the spot. ECI on Sunday claimed that the CCTV footages have shown that the claims of the Banerjee is false as there was no intimidation seen in the footages. “It is self-evident from the perusal of all the reports that the allegations mentioned in your hand-written note are factually incorrect, without any empirical evidence whatsoever and devoid of substance. There was neither violence nor intimidation at Boyal polling booth,” read the letter of ECI. “There is no evidence that BSF jawans had been involved in any act that you mention at Boyal polling station. Your allegation is far from the truth. A mock drill was conducted at 5.30 am at the Boyal polling station in Nandigram and voting commenced at 7 am on April 1,” further read the letter. EC 'snare' may hit TMC prospects his is the second within fortnight. In the TCommissionthe rapafrom the Election poll panel had defirst instance, scribed the reported attack on Mamata at Nandigram as an "accident" and on April 4, Sunday, the EC in a strongly worded rejoinder to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has rejected her claim about the presence of outsiders at a polling booth in Nandigram as "factually incorrect" and "devoid of substance". With these two instances, Mamata's standing may take a huge beating even as . six phases of polling are still underway Political analysts feel, the back-to-back rap from EC will have a bearing on the minds of voters as these stunts do not cut much ice these days. It may be recalled that Free Press had cited the rule number V of the Model Code which says that candidates are not allowed inside a booth without proper /valid passes, however, it was shown on all TV channels nationwide that the CM was at Boyal primary school booth for close to two hours and she also called Governor Dhankar from there. Voting was stopped due to her presence and the high voltage tension was beamed across the country through the OB vans of all national channels. Miss India finalist makes debut in Jaunpur The Bollywood quotient of the three-tier Panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh went up a notch when Bollywood actress cum writer and 2015 Femina Miss India finalist Diksha Singh joined the fray from Jaunpur district. Clad in ripped jeans, the ‘Hitback’ actress is seen campaigning in her constituency -- Ward number 26 in Jaunpur. Born in Baksha village, Diksha’s parents had left the village when she was in Class III to settle in Goa. His father has a roaring transport business in Goa and Rajasthan. The Bollywood damsel had hogged headlines in 2015 when she reached the final of the Femina Miss India contest. In 1986 she entered Bollywood with ‘Hitback’ and wrote the script for ‘Ishq Tera’ in 2016. Later, she entered the modelling world and did leading ads for Pantene, Snapdeal, Parachute oil etc. With over 2 lakh followers on Instagram, her latest 'Rabba album, music Mehar Kare,’ is an instant hit in 2021. She is now working on a web series of a big banner. Her father Jitendra Singh was keen to contest from his native village. He was campaigning door to door for the past six months. But the seat was, unfortunately, declared reserved for women making room for her daughter to take up the challenge as an independent candidate. “I always wanted to do some- thing for my village where I was born and spent the initial years of my life. Nothing has changed in the village since I left. If elected, I am keen to make a difference in the lives of people of my village,” she told media persons. Diksha, who has already filed her nomination papers, is pitted against Shalini Singh, wife of a RSS senior functionary Siddharth Singh. Polling in Jaunpur is slated for April 15. Results on May 2 will decide her fate in politics.
