Speaking at the opening session of the G20 Leaders’ Meeting on “Inclusive and sustainable economic growth leaving no one behind,” Modi said the world must adopt new, more equitable approaches. He noted that these challenges are felt “acutely in Africa,” where the Summit is being held for the first time. Modi proposed a new G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus, warning that drug trafficking, especially the spread of dangerous substances such as fentanyl, is feeding terrorism. “Let us weaken the wretched drug-terror economy,” he said. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, confirmed that the declaration was unanimously approved by all members present. Traditionally, G20 declarations are adopted at the end of the summit, but Ramaphosa told leaders that there was “overwhelming consensus” to take up the issue first. His remarks were inadvertently broadcast to the media when cameras were still rolling, prompting South Africa’s foreign minister to intervene and alert him. The declaration marks a symbolic victory for South Africa. The Prime Minister also outlined the creation of a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository under the G20. He said the world must preserve and learn from “eco-balanced, culturally rich, and socially cohesive ways of living.” Modi added, “This will help us pass on our collective wisdom to further good health and wellbeing,” noting that India’s Indian Knowledge Systems initiative could serve as the foundation. In a post on X, he wrote, “Now is the right moment for us to revisit our development parameters and focus on growth that is inclusive and sustainable. India’s civilisational values, especially the principle of Integral Humanism offers a way forward.” 4Contd on | Nation 4See also | Nation 4Contd on | Nation 303 CHILDREN ABDUCTED FROM NIGERIAN SCHOOL Agencies NEW DELHI An international arms trafficking network linked to Pakistan's ISI-backed suppliers has been busted with the arrest of four operatives involved in supplying high-end foreign-made weapons to organised crime groups across north India, police said on Saturday. The network sourced foreign-made weapons smuggled from Pakistan using customized, low-altitude, radar-evading drones and supplied them to gangsters in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Traffickers based across the border dropped consignments at pre-marked GPS locations along vulnerable stretches of the international border in Punjab late at night. Local receivers retrieved the packages, transported them to safe houses, and supplied them to crime networks across India. The module used encrypted communication and changed drop locations frequently to avoid surveillance, police said. The traffickers wrapped weapons in carbon-coated material to evade scanning, and payments were made through hawala and proxy accounts. 4Contd on | Nation A man walk past belongings at the St. Mary's Catholic Primary and Secondary School after gunmen abducted children and staff in Papiri community, Nigeria, Friday –AP Agencies ABUJA More than 300 students and a dozen teachers were abducted by gunmen during a Friday morning attack on St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State, north-central Nigeria, in what authorities say is one of the largest school kidnappings in recent years. Satellite images show a large compound with more than 50 buildings, including Dharavi blaze disrupts trains FPJ News Service MUMBAI Two major fires ripped through slum clusters in Mumbai on Saturday, charring several huts in separate incidents at Dharavi and Borivali West. Though no casualties were reported, the blaze in Dharavi triggered a shutdown of Harbour line train services between Bandra and Mahim for close to three hours, causing widespread disruption for commuters. The first blaze erupted around 12.30 pm inside the Navrang Compound on Dharavi’s 60-foot road, in shanties located dangerously close to the UP Harbour line tracks. Within minutes, thick columns of smoke towered over the area as the fire spread through makeshift structures packed with plastic scrap and warehouse material. Panic gripped classrooms and dormitories. The complex lies close to a major road connecting Yelwa and Mokwa. Officials said earlier intelligence had warned of increased threats in the area. Residents described scenes of chaos as families searched for their missing children. Dauda Chekula, 62, said four of his grandchildren, aged seven to 10, were among those taken. “We don’t know what is happening now, because we have not heard anything since this morning,” he told The Associated Press. “The children who were able to escape have scattered, and the only information we are getting is that the attackers are still moving with the remaining children into the bush.” 4Contd on | Nation Centre eyes control of Chandigarh FPJ News Service MUMBAI the locality after multiple explosions, believed to be from commercial cylinders stored inside the huts. Fire brigade teams responded in strength, deploying six fire engines, two fire tankers, ten jumbo tankers, quick-response tenders, and an ambulance. The blaze was declared a Level 2 fire, indicating a major incident requiring extensive resources. A senior civic official said that 10 to 15 warehouses were gutted, adding that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Railway authorities immediately halted services on the Harbour line and cut power to the overhead equipment as a precaution. New Delhi has moved to bring Chandigarh under a new administrative framework that would allow the Union Government to directly appoint a Lieutenant Governor for the Union Territory — a step that has ignited political backlash in Punjab and revived longstanding disputes over the city’s ownership. The proposed Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2025, scheduled for introduction in the Winter Session of Parliament beginning December 1, seeks to place Chandigarh within the scope of Article 240 of the Constitution. 4Contd on | Nation 4Contd on | Nation FIBONACCI DAY
