NEW DELHI After US President Donald Trump claimed that India has stopped purchasing Russian oil, government sources on Saturday clarified there is no such pause on the oil imports from Russia. According to government sources, "India's energy purchases are driven by national interests and market forces. We do not have any reports of Indian oil firms halting Russian imports". There was, however, no official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Trump's statement. "I understand that India is no longer going to be buying oil from Russia. That's what I heard, I don't know if that's right or not. That is a good step. We will see what happens," Trump told reporters in Washington, DC. Trump has threatened 100 per cent tariffs on countries that small industries, and employment for youth are the topmost priorities for the government, Modi said, "The government is doing everything possible in this direction. But as citizens, we too have responsibilities." Calling for a national movement to support local products, the prime minister said, "This is not just about Modi saying it, every Indian should say this -- if we want India to become the third-largest economy, every political party and every leader, keeping aside their hesitations, must work in the nation's interest and awaken the spirit of swadeshi among the people." He also urged people to be conscious consumers, saying, "Whatever we buy, we should ask ourselves -- has an Indian toiled to make this? The official said that after intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Akhal forest area of Kulgam district, joint forces, including the Army, the Central Reserve Police Force and Jammu and Kashmir Police, started a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Friday. "Exchange of fire between the joint forces and the hiding terrorists took place, and one terrorist was killed overnight while two were killed today. The operation is still going on to sanitise the area and find out if more terrorists are present in the area," the officials said. "The identity and other details of the slain terrorists are being ascertained, but at least two of them appear to be locals," officials said. Security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations against the terrorists in the hinterland, while the Army has been on maximum alert guarding the line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The elimination of three hardcore Pakistani terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people were killed, is part of the aggressive operations being carried out by the joint forces. The Election Commission on Saturday dubbed as "baseless" claims of RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav that his name was missing from the draft electoral rolls of Bihar. Officials said that in the relevant portion of the draft roll, his name appears at serial number 416. Yadav on Saturday claimed his name was missing in the draft electoral rolls published by the EC as part of the special intensive revision in Bihar, ahead of the assembly polls. Ahead of the sentencing, the 34-year-old grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda wept soundly and appealed to the court for a lesser punishment, stating that he is a BE Mechanical graduate who has always passed on merit and has not committed any wrongdoing. The Special Court for MPs/MLAs Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat also imposed a total fine of Rs 11.50 lakh on the accused, and said Rs 11.25 lakh from this fine amount will be paid to the victim. The court had on Friday convicted Revanna of raping a 48-year-old woman who was working as a househelp at the family's Gannikada farmhouse in Hassan dis- trict's Holenarasipura. She was allegedly raped twice -at Hassan farm house and Bengaluru residence-- in 2021, and the act was recorded by the accused on his mobile phone. Special public prosecutor Ashok Nayak speaking to reporters said, considering that the rape incidents had happened when the convict was a Member of Parliament, the court, taking into account the seriousness of the offence, has given a maximum punishment "The court has sentenced life imprisonment for Prajwal Revanna, and as per law, he should be in prison for the full life. The prosecution had invoked various sections, and for all sections, the court has sentenced separate punishments and fines.
