ON P10 Betul MP Dhurve's caste certificate found to be fake HIGH POWERED committee sticks to its decision OUR STAFF REPORTER BHOPAL Upholding its previous decision, the High Powered Scrutiny Committee termed as fake the caste certificate of BJP Member of Parliament from Betul, Jyoti Dhurve. The meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday. Dhurve had appealed to the committee for revision of its decision taken in May 2017. The committee had declared the caste certificate of Dhurve to be fake in 2017 following a complaint. However, Dhurve approached the High Court and got a stay on the order of this committee. Later, the Member of Parliament appealed in the committee again to reconsider its decision. Nevertheless, in the meeting held on Wednesday, the committee rejected the pleas made by Dhurve and stuck to its previous decision that said that the caste certificate was fake. The high powered scrutiny committee is headed by principal secretary of tribal welfare department with commissioner as secretary and heads of SC/ST Welfare Commission as its members. It may take about a week to complete the proceedings after which the decision will be sent to the government. The state government might send the decision to Election Commission demanding action on the BJP MP. Dhurve still has an option of approaching the court to challenge the committee’s verdict but it seems that the ruling Congress might take advantage of the situation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
