However, he refused to assert that it was a bomb blast and told the media that the matter was being investigated from all angles. Following a meeting with senior Home Ministry and Delhi police officials, in which he was apprised of the developments, Shah said, “"A blast took place in a Hyundai i20 car at around 7 p.m. today near Red Fort. Due to the blast, 3-4 vehicles around this car were damaged and some people who were in them and outside also sustained injuries or were killed.” Shah, who later also visited LNJP Hospital to see the injured, added that “as per hospital sources, eight people have died so far.” As for the probe into the incident, he said, “we have started an investigation keeping all angles open”. The minister expressed the hope that the investigation teams of Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the Delhi blast. May the injured recover at the earliest. PM Narendra Modi the Delhi Police Special Cell, Crime Branch, NIA, SPG and FSL would soon be able to “arrive at a conclusion on the cause of the blast”. Police teams were trying to learn more about the incident. 4Continued on | P8 Rajesh Moudgil & M Saleem Pandit CHANDIGARH/SRINAGAR Shattering the peace of last 13 years, a powerful car explosion ripped through the Old Delhi area on Monday night killing at least nine people and leaving over a dozen others injured. The powerful explosion, which rattled buildings up to nearly a kilometre away till Chandni Chowk left in its wake a trail of destruction which brought alive memories of the 1990s and 2000s when terror attacks in Delhi and especially areas around Red Fort and Chandni Chowk had become a routine feature. The explosion in the car took place at around 7 p.m. when the area outside Gate No. 1 of the Metro station was buzzing with activity. The car exploded near the station exit that opens on the sidewalk leading to Chandni Chowk. It being a Monday, there was a big rush in the area. The massive explosion led to a major fire which engulfed a large number of vehicles. Images shared by passersby revealed vehicles up in flames over a large area. At least one person was also seen lying dead on the road. Eyewitnesses also spoke of seeing body parts near the explosion site. It is suspected that the casualties included people In a major counter-terror operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police, in coordination with the Intelligence Bureau, have busted a terror module linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ulHind (AGuH) outfits, arresting eight people, including two doctors, and seizing around 2,900 kg of improvised explosive device (IED) material, chemicals, and arms. The bulk was found in Anantnag. In the process police uncovered what appeared to be a “white-collar terror ecosystem” involving radicalised professionals and students. The accused were allegedly identifying and indoctrinating individuals, raising funds, and providing logistical support for terror operations. The operation, which has been underway for the past two weeks, is being described as one of the biggest terrorrelated seizures in the National Capital Region (NCR) in recent years. Among those arrested are two doctors from Haryana’s Faridabad district, one of whom, identified as Dr Muzammil Shakil, an MBBS doctor and teacher at Al Falah who were in the vehicles nearby as also pedestrians. At least 15 injured were taken to the nearby Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital of whom, the Medical Superintendent said, eight were declared dead while three were in a critical condition. The Delhi Fire Service in the meantime rushed seven fire tenders to control the fires at the blast site. Soon after the blast, the area was cordoned off by the police. Several teams of Delhi Police, including those of the Special Cell, reached the spot to begin their investigation to determine if the explosion was the result of a terror attack.
