NO EXIT OF NITISH: EXIT POLLS Bihar logs record 67.14% polling; Kishanganj registers over 76% turnout GAURAV VIVEK BHATNAGAR Mahagathbandhan PATNA loses ground A majority of the exit polls for the Bihar Assembly elections have predicted a return of the state’s longest serving chief minister Nitish Kumar to power. At least 10 of the exit polls have projected the National Democratic Alliance, led by Kumar, to win between 130 and 167 seats in the 243member House, voting for which was held in two phases on November 6 and 11. As for the Mahagathbandhan, the exit polls have projected it get anywhere between 70 and 102 seats. Interestingly, these exit polls have also shown that Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party may, despite the hype around it, will not be able to translate the buzz into votes and only end up with a kitty of 0-8 seats. A win for the NDA, it if happens, would also mean that 71-year old Kumar would get an opportunity to become the CM for a record 10th time. The worst hit, according to their estimates, is Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal, which had emerged as the singlelargest party last time. PK: Zero seats, big impact BJP single largest party? In the lead-up to the Bihar Assembly elections, poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor kept repeating one sentence about the prospects of his Jan Suraaj Party - "arsh pe ya farsh pe" (either sky high or on the floor), meaning it would either do really well or really badly. Exit polls after the second phase of voting in the state have put the party firmly on the floor, at least in terms of the number of seats won. The 2025 assembly election in Bihar could lead to a massive shift in Bihar, at least for the BJP, if exit polls have got it right.
