Decks cleared for govt medical college Free Press initiative for government medical college in Ujjain is bearing fruits. The state government has decided to make budgetary allocation for it in 2022-23 fiscal. Sources on Monday told Free Press that bowing to the demand and the pressure exerted by Ujjain people, the government has finally given nod to a full-fledged medical college in Ujjain. Absence of a medical college in Ujjain despite being divisional headquarters has brought a bad name to the government and local leadership as people suffered during the two Covid-19 waves. For these places, the Union government too had agreed to provide matching grant as per the norms of Medical Council of India. Since Ujjain has a private medical college and its neighbouring Indore and Dewas districts also have advanced medical facilities, city's claim for government medical college was never taken seriously by the government and political leaders.
