Vadra's interim protection from arrest extended till Mar 25 NEW DELHI A Delhi court on Tuesday extended Robert Vadra's interim protection from arrest till March 25 in a money laundering case and asked him to join the probe after the ED alleged that he was not cooperating and sought his custodial interrogation. Special judge Arvind Kumar granted the interim anticipatory bail to Vadra, brother-in-law of Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Vadra, who has been granted protection from arrest several times by the court, had filed an anticipatory bail application in the case linked to allegations of money laundering in the purchase of a Londonbased property at 12, Bryanston Square, worth 1.9 million pounds. Advocate Ashish Shanghi said, "As per the Constitution, reservation should not exceed 50%. Hence, the High Court stayed execution of the ordinance increasing reservations from 14% to 27% for the OBC. The government's deci- sion may pave the way for the controversial case against Vanzara and Amin to be dropped. After going through a letter submitted to the court by CBI lawyer R C Kodekar, Judge J K Pandya said the sanction to prosecute the two former officers, who were accused in the case, under Section 197 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), was declined by the state government. The defence lawyers then sought permission to file an application to drop the proceedings against Vanzara and Amin. The court granted the request and asked them to file an application on March 26. It will now be up to the CBI to decide whether to proceed with the case against the two without the government sanction. The all-powerful GST Council on Tuesday allowed builders an option to choose between old tax rates and the new ones for under-construction residential projects to help resolve input tax credit issues. The council, headed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and including representatives of all states, at its 34th meeting here laid out transition rules for the implementation of new tax rates for the real estate sector. Builders will get a onetime option to continue paying tax at the old rates (effective rate of 8 per cent or 12 per cent with Input Tax Credit or ITC) on ongoing projects (buildings where construction and actual booking have both started before April 1, 2019, but which will not be completed by March 31, 2019), Revenue Secretary A B Pandey told reporters here. SALMAN KHAN FINDS A LEADING LADY IN ALIA Notification issued for phase two of LS polls on April 18 NEW DELHI The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notification kick starting the poll process in 97 constituencies spread across 13 states where phase two of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on April 18. The process of nomination began with the issuance of this notification and will continue till March 26. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 27 and the last day of withdrawing nomination is March 29. By the evening of March 29, a clear picture on the number of candidates in each of the 97 constituencies will emerge. All parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu (39 seats) and Puducherry (one seat) will go for polling in the second phase. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal will see polling in all the seven phases. In the second phase, eight UP constituencies including Agra, Aligarh and Mathura, three in West Bengal, including Darjeeling and five in Bihar will go for polls. UP has 80 seats, while West Bengal and Bihar have 42 and 40 Lok Sabha seats respectively . The Srinagar and Udhampur seats in Jammu and Kashmir will also go for polling in the second phase. The election will pit the BJPled National Democratic Alliance against mostly different opposition groupings in various states, including of Congress, the Left and regional forces who are continuing to work out a grand alliance to minimise a division of votes against BJP . Apology sought from Cong MLA for making sarpanch sit on floor JODHPUR A sarpanch body in Rajasthan on Tuesday demanded an apology from a Congress legislator who had asked a village head to sit on the floor instead on a chair beside her at a meeting. The Rajasthan Sarpanch Sangh's reaction comes after a video went viral where MLA Divya Maderna was asking the Khetasar village head in Osian area of Jodhpur district on Saturday to sit among the people on the ground. "Divya must apologise for the humiliation of a female sarpanch. If she did not do so, she should be ready to face our ire", said Bhanwarlal, president of the Rajasthan Sarpanch Sangh. The village head, Chandu Devi, said being a woman, she did not expect such behaviour from a female public representative. "I am very disappointed with the behaviour meted out to me by Maderna. I had gone to the meeting of Maderna on the insistence of the villagers and also sat on the dais after the villagers wanted me to sit beside the MLA," Devi said. Maderna, however, pointed out that the sarpanch belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party and asked how she could be allowed to sit on the dais in a meeting that was organised to give thanks to the villagers for voting the Congress MLA to power. Later, the Osian MLA said she did not know that Devi was a sarpanch as the latter's face was covered under a veil. A student recorded the class on camera and showed it to the principal following which the professor, Charan Singh, submitted a written apology to the students. The professor was subsequently suspended. The video has been widely circulated on social media. In the video, the Singh is seen writing three formulae on the blackboard. The first was "closeness - attraction = friendship", "closeness + attraction = romantic love" and the last of his formulae being "attraction - closeness = crush". The professor is seen teaching the formulae in Hindi with fervour to the students explaining each word to the girls. Speaking at an event organised by BBC News Marathi here, the Rajya Sabha MP said he had predicted a change in the political situation prevailing in 2014, when the BJP came to power with a simple majority and of 2019, , when members of the 17th Lok Sabha will be elected in the next two months. Raut said the BJP might win around 210 seats in polls, scheduled to be held in seven phases beginning April 11. He also said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would get around 300 seats.
