No one realises this better than former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar. His one tweet on Wednesday elicited a greater response than he would have drawn by addressing a gathering at Ram Lila Maidan. In less than two hours (at the time of filing this copy), Kumar's tweet had gathered more than a thousand retweets and 5,000 likes. Kumar, in the tweet, took a cue from one of the songs from actor Aamir Khan-starrer '3 Idiots' -- 'Behti hawaa sa thha woh' -- and turned into a political parody. Kumar tweeted in Hindi: "Mai aane waala hai, desh gungunaane waala hai. Behti hawaa sa thha woh, Rafale ka bill le gaya woh. Achchhe din ka jhaansa dekar choona laga gaya woh. [Lok Sabha polls are less than a month away. And the nation will soon sing -- he came like a breeze and undertook the Rafale scam; he duped people with the moniker of 'achchhe din'.]" One of the responses was equally amusing. Referring to Rahul Gandhi, it said, "Thami hawa sa tha wo, Puri duniya k sath padha wo, Muft ki khata hai wo, Ma ke tukde karta hai wo, Fir bhi shekhi bagharta hai wo." Another tweet said: "Deshdrohi thha woh, aazaadi ke naare lagaata thha woh. Janata ne 2019 mein diya rail, kahaan gaya usey dhoondho." The allusion was to sedition charges against Kumar. The division is 20-8, with the Congress getting the larger slice of the electoral pie. The two parties had been haggling over the Mysuru-Kodagu seat. A part of the problem was that both parties have a base in Karnataka and a fair chance of winning – at least on paper. The JD(S) has nominated Deve Gowda's grandsons Nikhil Kumaraswamy and Prajwal Revanna as candidates from party bastions of Mandya and Hassan, respectively . PM RAPID FIRE TWEETS TO STARS, CRICKETERS PM reached out to politicians, sportsmen, journalists and film stars -- from Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee to Virat Kohli, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal -- in a barrage of tweets on Wednesday morning, calling on them to encourage more people to vote in the election. DEVE GOWDA CRIES, SO DO SON AND GRANDSON Former Prime Minister Deve Gowda did what he usually does - cry. He was moved to tears when he said many people, especially on social media, were mocking him for giving tickets to his family members. The incident happened when he officially announced the candidature of his grandson Prajwal Revanna from Hassan. When Gowda started crying, his son Revanna and grandson Prajwal too shed tears openly. Gowda's critics say that this was nothing but a drama and to win sympathy. The former PM did not, however, say why so many from his family are holding political positions. HD Kumaraswamy is the chief minister, his son Nikhil is a Lok Sabha candidate, Revanna is a minister in the Kumaraswamy cabinet and his son Prajwal is now in politics. Revanna's wife is a zilla Parishad member in Hassan. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday clarified that his son and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya won't contest the Lok Sabha polls, this time. However, according to a Sena insider, Aaditya would rather contest the Assembly by-poll from a safe constituency. He said that Aaditya’s decision to enter the state Assembly would largely depend upon how Sena fares in the Lok Sabha polls. While speaking to the media, Uddhav said Bal Thackeray had never dissuaded him from fighting elections and, likewise, he will not dissuade son Aaditya. “Aaditya will contest the polls when he wishes to. However, this time, he will not contest,” said Uddhav. A Sena leader, on condition of anonymity, said, “Uddhav and Aaditya are the two pillars of the Sena. They will also be the star campaigners in the Lok Sabha. Aaditya will definitely contest but not the Lok Sabha polls.” Sena leaders feel Mahim and Dombivli will be the safest seats; Mahim is Marathidominated while Brahmin-dominated Dombivli is his mother Rashmi’s hometown. The RSS also has a strong hold in Dombivli. An elected legislator of the party from Mahim or Dombivli can always be asked to resign to facilitate Aditya. Laliteshpati Tripathi is grandson of Congress veteran, the late Kamlapati Leak jeopardised national security FROM OUR BUREAU New Delhi Just a day before the Chief Justice headed Bench holds a second hearing on the review petition challenging its verdict in the Rafale deal, Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra on Wednesday accused former union ministers Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie and advocate Prashant Bhushan of putting national security in jeopardy . In a 6-page affidavit, he said the documents attached to the review petition relate to the war capacity of aircraft. "Since the review petition has been widely circulated and is available in public domain, the same is available to the enemy/our adver- saries," he said. The Defence Secretary cited an "internal enquiry" which is in progress since February 28 to find out where the leak took place, but did not mention as to why no FIR has been lodged. But he said those plotting the leak were guilty of penal of- fences under the IPC , including theft by unauthorised photocopying of sensitive official documents affecting national security Those who have photo. copied the documents have "offended India's agreement with a foreign country" as the agreement has a secrecy clause, the changes. Gandhi's assurance comes within days of the Biju Janata Dal leader Naveen Patnaik declaring that the party would give 33 per cent of the tickets for Lok Sabha to women aspirants. The other day Trinamul Congress , leader Mamata Banerjee unveiled a list of candidates of which 41 per cent are women. Gandhi expressed concern that not many women were in leadership roles. “Frankly I , don't see enough women in leadership positions. I don't see them leading enough companies, I don't see them leading enough states, I don't see enough of them in the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabhas,” he said, CAN YOU CALL ME RAHUL? Rahul Gandhi can be as charming as his sister, when he wants to be. The disarming charm was at play when during his outreach in Chennai, he addressed hundreds of students at a college and urged them to ask him "only difficult" questions. "Can you call me Rahul, instead of sir," he said as a student rose to ask him a question. CONTD. The proposal was moved by France, the UK and the US on February 27, days after the Pulwama terror attack. The listing would have put strict restrictions on Azhar and ensured the seizure of his assets. In its first response, India said it was "disappointed" with the outcome but stopped short of naming China. The members of the Security Council Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee had 10 working days to raise objections to the proposal moved by France, the UK and the US. The no-objection period was to lapse at 3 pm local time (New York) on Wednesday (12:30 am IST Thursday). Bhim Army chief, Varanasi on radar OUR BUREAU New Delhi Left out of the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress is trying to reach out to Dalits and the underprivileged voters in the State. This was more than apparent when Congress general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia made it a point to call on Bhim Army leader Chandrashekhar Azad in a hospital in Meerut. The Dalit leader was hospitalised following his arrest the previous day . He had allegedly flagged off a procession of his motorbikeborne supporters which the police say is a violation of the model code of conduct. Azad took ill soon after his arrest and had to be hospitalised. Speaking to Priyanka, Azad said he will fight against PM Modi, were he to contest from Varanasi. Azad has no love lost for Smriti Irani as well because of her alleged role as Human Resource Development Minister in scuttling a fair probe into the death of Dalit research scholar Rohit Vemula in Hyderabad Central University . Soon after Yogi Adityanath Government took over in 2017, Azad was arrested under the National Security Act, amid caste violence which had rocked parts of Saharanpur. After his release from Saharanpur prison, Azad urged the BSP leader to form a grand alliance against the BJP Mayawati, . however, tried to distance herself from him. FPJ spoke to a socialist leader from Varanasi, Shiv Kumar, who is a former students’ union president of Banaras Hindu University Kumar said that . caste-based parties were keeping the Congress out of the nonBJP formulation and this could lead to a division of votes. The meeting of the two Congress leaders with Azad could further annoy Mayawati and cast a shadow on Congress’ fortunes in UP .
