Counting of votes in 543 constituencies will be taken up on May 23, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora told a press conference, formally beginning the election process and declaring that the Model Code of Conduct for parties and governments has come into force with immediate effect. Once Model Code comes into force, governments cannot take policy decisions or announce new projects in the run-up to the elections. CONTD. ON P10 EVMs to carry candidate pics to avoid confusion INDORE VOTES ON MAY 19 Polls for Indore Lok Sabha seat will be held on May 19. Over 25 lakh voters will cast votes. The EC on Sunday said the EVMs and postal ballot papers would carry photograph of all candidates to help voters identify the leaders in the fray. The EC said the provision for printing the candidate photographs will help avoid any confusion which may arise when candidates with similar names contest from the same constituency. The photograph will be printed on the EVM ballot units as well as on postal ballot papers, the EC said. For this purpose, the candidates are required to submit to the returning officer, their recent stamp size photograph as per the specifications laid down by the EC.
