The doctor has been posted to the government hospital in Itarsi. Superintendent of police Arvind Saxena said Mantri was arrested when he was trying to put the chopped body parts into acid. Sources in the police department said Mantri had alleged illicit relations with his driver’s wife and when he had objected to it, he was bumped off. Giving details of the crime, Saxena said the doctor had killed Pachori on Monday evening. Before murdering Pachori, the doctor gave him anaesthesia and took him to his operation theatre, the police said, adding that the driver’s wife may have had a role in the crime. The doctor had bought huge quantity of acid from a shop without taking permission, Saxena said. Reiterating that July 31 deadline for the completion of NRC exercise will not be extended, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said the Centre is not cooperating in the NRC process and it seems the entire effort of the MHA is to destroy the NRC process. The apex court asked the Election Commission to consider exempting certain state officers from election duty to ensure that NRC process continues. The top court had said on January 24 that the July 31, 2019 deadline to finalise the NRC for Assam cannot be extended.
