The apex court also took strong exception that lawyers for none of the states and UTs, except for Delhi, were present in the court during the hearing and said it was a clear indication of their lack of concern. “It is a clear indication that nobody bothers. So all the dump of India can remain here,” a three-judge bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur, Kurian Joseph and Deepak Gupta said. Additional Solicitor General A N S Nadkarni, representing the Centre, told the bench that they have filed an affidavit about the details received from 28 out of the 36 states and union territories (UTs) on solid waste management. Wait for the atom bomb of garbage to explode?” The bench said that besides Delhi, the lawyers for other states and UTs were not present in the court and asked the Centre what should be done now. “What do we do, you (Centre) tell us. Is this the attitude of states governments about solid waste management? Nobody (lawyers) for the states and UTs, except for Delhi, are present,” the bench observed. Nadkarni said the court could call for a 'responsible officer' of each states and UT to appear before it and explain their stand. The Centre also told the apex court that they have filed the information received from the states, UTs and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) as per which State Level Advisory Body (SLABs) have been constituted in some of the states and UTs. Karnataka Lokayukta stabbed in office, 1 held AGENCIES Bengaluru Karnataka Lokayukta P Vishwanatha Shetty was on Wednesday stabbed multiple times and left profusely bleeding by a man who went to his office with a complaint only to be told that the case was shut, officials said. Shetty in his early 70s, was , rushed to a nearby hospital and is prima facie stated to be out of danger. The Lokayukta collapsed after assailant Tejaraj Sharma attacked him in his chamber in a multi-storeyed building near Vidhana Soudha or the state secretariat, according to officials and eyewitnesses. Sharma was arrested, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters after he rushed to Mallya Hospital and enquired about Shetty's condition. Sharma, who had filed a complaint with the Lokayukta about not getting a tender for a work he had applied for, went to his chamber and stabbed him at three or four places, he said.He was told by the Lokayukta office that the case was shut after investigation. Singh claimed that 1000 acre government land has been turned into private land. Revenue minister Umashankar Gupta, acknowledging the allegations of Singh, announced probe into the irregularities by chief secretary (CS). Singh alleged that the district administration is not taking action against the accused under pressure of influential persons. He said the mutation of the land given to SC and ST category of people in both the villages was done without collector’s permission. He said the then collector in 2016 had given orders to inquire into the said land scam. Singh claimed that a letter was written by the public prosecutor in the recent past file cases against the 22 accused persons including Patwari Ramanand Singh, Shivbhushan Singh, RS Singh, tehsildar RN Khare and Manoj Shrivastava, but no action was taken. Aadhaar not mandatory for enrolment in all India exams: SC AGENCIES New Delhi The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the CBSE not to make Aadhaar number mandatory for enrolment of students appearing in NEET 2018 and other all India exams. A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief justice Dipak Misra directed the CBSE to upload the information on their website. Earlier in the day UIDAI had told the , apex court that it has not authorised CBSE to mandatorily take Aadhaar number of students to get themselves enroled for appearing in NEET 2018 examination. Attorney General K K Venugopal had said he has instructions from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) that like in Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Assam other identity proofs like passport, voter card and ration card can be used by the CBSE for enroling the students in the examination. The uncertainty over for whether the deadline linking of Aadhaar would be SC to end uncertainty on Aadhaar linking deadline extended beyond March 31 drew the attention of the Supreme Court which on Wednesday said it would pass an appropriate order in this regard since the matter would have a bearing on financial institutions across the country.
